Going into the 2022 football season, LSU Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Tigers roster.
Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Brian Kelly this season.
We return to the running back group this time around to break down a player who could be poised for a breakout season as a sophomore: Armoni Goodwin. He didn’t make a major impact as a true freshman in a running back room that struggled, but the path to playing time seems much clearer for him in 2022.

Depth Chart Overview
Goodwin is a former top-100 recruit and Birmingham, Alabama, native. He joined the roster as half of LSU’s talented true freshman duo a year ago, alongside Corey Kiner.
LSU struggled to find success on the ground in 2021, and Goodwin only attempted 16 carries for 65 yards. However, Goodwin was one of several standouts in the Tigers’ spring game, scoring the exhibition’s first touchdown.
This year’s roster doesn’t include last year’s leading rusher in Ty Davis-Price, who was drafted in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft, or Kiner, who transferred to Cincinnati. Earning the starting job won’t be easy for Goodwin, who has to contend with John Emery Jr. — a former five-star recruit returning from academic ineligibility in 2021 — and Tre Bradford for touches.
Still, it should be a more productive Year 2 for Goodwin, who appeared in just six games a year ago.
