Arizona Cardinals 2022 draft picks get NFL numbers

The Arizona Cardinals will kick off rookie minicamp this week and their eight draft picks checked in. They were given their first NFL uniform and jersey number.

The Cardinals announced the rookies’ new numbers, which prompted a change in one other player.

TE Trey McBride – No. 85

McBride gets to wear the number he wore in college at Colorado State.

OLB Cameron Thomas – No. 97

Thomas could not wear No. 99 like he did in college, as that number is out of retirement for defensive end J.J. Watt.

OLB Myjai Sanders – No. 41

Sanders wore No. 21 in college. That would not be possible in the pros, as that is a number for defensive backs and running backs. 41 works.

RB Keaontay Ingram – No. 30

Ingram wore No. 28 in college but that number on the Cardinals belongs to safety and special teams ace Charles Washington.

He will wear No. 30 and he seems to be cool with it.

OL Lecitus Smith – No, 54

Smith will wear No. 54, which is what he wore while at Virginia Tech.

CB Chris Matthews – No. 35

Matthews gets No. 35. He wore No. 9 in college at Valdosta State, but that number belongs to third-year linebacker Isaiah Simmons.

LB Jesse Luketa – No. 43

Luketa gets Haason Reddick’s old number. He wore No. 40 in college at Penn State.

OL Marquis Hayes – No. 78
