Arkansas football doesn’t find itself in this position often.
The Razorbacks haven’t been ranked inside the preseason Top 25 but once in the last nine years. It’s looking as though that might change in 2022.
Arkansas cracked not just the Top 25, but the Top 10 in CBS Sports’ post-spring rankings. If that were to carry over to the preseason Associated Press poll – the two are unrelated – it would be only the third time since 1981 the Razorbacks were in the Top 10.
The author of the rankings, Dennis Dodd, has plenty of SEC familiarity, as well having worked in the Kansas City area for a bulk of his career. Here’s what he wrote about the Hogs.
Remember when Arkansas “lost” the bidding war with Missouri for Eli Drinkwitz and had to settle for Sam Pittman? Yeah, me either. In Year 3 under the folksy Pittman, the Razorbacks have turned the corner as a knock-your-head-off SEC program. KJ Jefferson might be the second-best SEC quarterback to Young. Arkansas’ Week 1 opponent, Cincinnati, was No. 25 in the rankings. Texas, which joins the SEC at the conclusion of its time in the Big later in the 2020s, was No. 17. Tennessee and Ole Miss were No. 15 and No. 13. Arkansas hosts the Rebels at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium on November 19.

Arkansas football is officially back. The Razorbacks’ 9-4 season last year was their best since 2011 and the return of KJ Jefferson at quarterback is perhaps the biggest reason for the lofty slotting.
