Over/under for projected wins in 2022

Ron Rivera is entering his third season as the head coach of the Washington Commanders in 2022. In his third season as head coach of the Carolina Panthers in 2013, Rivera led his squad to a 12-4 record.

Rivera has often referenced the third season of a regime as an important one, so he expects similar growth from the Commanders in 2022. Interestingly enough, the Panthers won seven games in Rivera’s second season back in 2012. Washington won seven games last season.

Through his first two seasons in Carolina, Rivera’s record was 13-19. In two seasons with Washington, Rivera’s record is 14-19.

This offseason, Rivera and Washington took a big swing at quarterback, missing out on Russell Wilson before making a move for Carson Wentz. While many around the NFL have continuously criticized the Wentz trade, he’s an upgrade under for the Commanders.

How much of an upgrade remains to be seen.

Former Washington quarterback — and current ESPN analyst — Robert Griffin III is high on the Commanders. Others, not so much.

What do the oddsmakers think about the Commanders in 2022?

According to Tipico Sportsbook, Washington’s projected win total has been set at 7.5 games.

Over 7.5 wins: -130

Under 7.5 wins: +110

Essentially, Washington is viewed as a team expected to win at least eight games in 2022. That’s in line with what many think of the Commanders if everything goes right for Washington.

Two big factors for the Commanders next season is if Wentz can resemble the 2017 version of himself and if the defense bounces back. If those things happen, the sky is the limit for Washington in the NFC East.
