The Tigers’ 2023 recruiting class currently only contains six players, but they are competing for a large number of blue-chip players around the country, many of whom are beginning to whittle down their lists.
The latest to do so was four-star Carver (Columbus, Georgia) linebacker Darron Reed, who is now down to six teams ahead of his July 4 commitment date. LSU is one of them, and it is joined by Auburn, Miami, Ohio State, Texas A&M and Florida State.
Reed is currently ranked as the No. 147 player in the class and No. 21 defensive lineman, per the On3 Consensus. At 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds, he likely projects as an interior player at the next level, though he could potentially play on the edge. He primarily lines up as a three-technique for his high school team.
Reed received an offer from the Tigers in January, and he heads to Baton Rouge on June 10 for an official visit. It will be a busy month, as he’ll also visit Miami (June 17), Florida State (June 21), Clemson (June 23) and Ohio State (June 24). Coach Dabo Swinney’s Tigers are interestingly not among Reed’s top six.
Crystal ball projections are currently evenly split between the Seminoles and the Buckeyes, but LSU will hope to make an impression on his first official visit next month.
