The Tigers are scouring the entire nation for talent in 2023 and beyond, and coach Brian Kelly’s team is one of six finalists for a talented west coast prospect in next year’s class.
Lincoln (Tacoma, Washington) edge rusher Jayden Wayne is a five-star recruit, and on Friday, he released his top six schools. LSU was on that list alongside Oregon, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan State and Miami.
Wayne is the No. 28 overall prospect and No. 3 edge rusher in the 2023 recruiting class. He picked up an offer from the Tigers and former coach Ed Orgeron last January, but he’s remained a priority target for the new staff.
“Coach Kelly is a great coach and knows how to win,” Wayne said, per On3’s Peter Warren. “Iron sharpens iron.”
Wayne is set to take an official visit to Baton Rouge on June 10, and he has also either taken or locked in official visits with Georgia (May 20), Miami (June 17) and Oregon (June 24). He has one crystal ball projection to the Hurricanes from 247Sports, and the Ducks are a 59% favorite to land him, per the On3 RPM.
LSU may be playing catch-up right now, but it will look to make up some ground when he’s on campus in two weeks.
