Jakobi Meyers wants to remain with Patriots amid contract negotiations

Patriots wide receiver Jakobi Meyers wants to call New England his home for the foreseeable future, as he enters his fourth season with the organization.

Meyers has built himself a solid resume during his time in Foxboro. He has recorded 1,954 yards and two touchdowns, cementing himself as a key member of the Patriots’ offense. The 2021 season was the best of his career to this point. He tallied 83 catches for 866 yards and two touchdowns.

He is currently a restricted free agent. The Patriots placed a second-round tender on him this offseason, but he has not signed it to this point.

“Definitely,” Meyers said when asked about whether he would want to stay in New England long-term, via MassLive’s Sophie Weller. “I mean, like, who wouldn’t?”

As far as the contract negotiations and off-field matters are concerned, Meyers will let his agent handle it. He is focused on playing football.

“So once I got here, I talked to my agent and I was just like, whatever you got to do,” Meyers said. “That’s why (my agent) gets paid the big bucks and I’m going to try to do what I do best. So, I kind of put it all on his plate, just trusting him, trusting the coaches, trusting the front office.”

The Patriots enter the 2022 season with a revamped group of wide receivers. Meyers figures to be in the thick of things, after establishing himself as a reliable complementary option during his time with the Patriots. As for now, it sounds like he will let his contract situation take care of itself.
