Amos Talalele switches commitment from Cal to USC

USC, Lincoln Riley seek elite speed, pursue 5-star edge rusher

Lincoln Riley certainly isn’t making friends in the Pac-12 coaching realm.

Earlier this offseason, Riley poached Austin Jones from Stanford, Travis Dye from Oregon, and both Mekhi Blackmon and Brenden Rice from Colorado.

Riley and the USC Trojans have landed another player, this time a commit who had previously announced his intent to play college football in Berkeley at Cal.

The new Trojans commit is three-star defensive lineman Amos Talalele from Santa Clara, California. The decision came on Monday morning. Talalele announced his new commitment on his Twitter account and added this was the “hardest decision” he had to make.

Talalele was recruited vigorously by new defensive line coach Shaun Nua, who came over to join the Trojans after spending time under Jim Harbaugh at Michigan.

Talalele also had interest from Arizona, Colorado, and Fresno State before he originally decided to join the Golden Bears, but after taking a visit to USC on June 16, his mind changed.

As Shotgun Spratling points out, Talalele is an OL/DL prospect.

That could give Riley with some flexibility, although Nua’s presence should move Talalele to the defensive side.

Nonetheless, this is another talented player headed to USC. More than that, this is the latest example of Riley and his staff working tirelessly to put the best team on the field in 2022 and beyond.
