How much longer, Roger Goodell?
When it comes to Daniel Snyder and the Washington Commanders, the more things change, the more things remain the same.
That is, the more the evidence that accumulates against Snyder, the more Washington fans grow in frustration with Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL owners.
During the June 22 hearing of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, Goodell at one point alluded to what was learned from the Beth Wilkinson investigation and voiced he felt the NFL held Snyder accountable. Indeed, there was a fine of $10 million and indeed there was some sort of unofficial suspension of Snyder. So the NFL did attempt to get Snyder’s attention and reign him in.
But what about the newer revelations?
There was a sexual assault allegation against Snyder and the NFL was not informed, nor did the then-Redskins leadership follow NFL league office policy. We have learned of the $1.6 million that was paid out to silence Snyder’s accuser. Is the NFL content to not punish Snyder further?
Washington fans have put up with this for many years. Bad things happened, Snyder for years denied them, accusing everyone else of lying about him. But in the last two years, some have gathered the courage to step out and tell their stories. Even this week, we have learned of more.
We learned of an employee being told by Snyder to pour milk in a private suite at FedEx Field, allowing it to sit and sour in the days leading up to a home game. We learned of private investigators sent to residences to intimidate cheerleaders.
Does this sound like a mature NFL owner? How much longer, Commissioner Goodell and NFL owners?
As the accumulating evidence will continue to build, when does the NFL leadership begin to consider ongoing character issues? Further, if they recognize ongoing character issues, what possible remedy would there be to reconcile the situation?
