Every year, the rotational opponent from the SEC East is one of the more intriguing games on LSU’s schedule.
Due to the nature of SEC scheduling, LSU doesn’t get to see teams from the East not named Florida that often. In 2022, LSU is set to host Tennessee.
It’ll be the first time the programs have played since 2017 and the first time the Volunteers have traveled to Baton Rouge since 2010. The Tigers and Vols have faced off 33 times in each program’s history. UT currently leads the series 29-10-3, but LSU has won the last five matchups.
This year’s contest will take place Oct. 8. In preparation for that matchup, let’s revisit LSU’s last five matchups against the Volunteers.
2017

You might remember this game more for the weather than any football-related reason. There were some crazy winds and a torrential downpour.
It was a rough year for LSU in 2017. In September, the Tigers were blown out by Mississippi State and lost to Troy. As the season progressed, things got better.
LSU entered this game was a 78.5% chance of victory according to ESPN’s FPI and ended up with a comfortable 30-10 win. LSU ran for 200 yards and on defense, Devin White had 11 tackles, including 2.5 TFLs.
2011

LSU had a special year in 2011. It ran through everyone that wasn’t Alabama with ease, and that included a 38-7 win against Derek Dooley’s Volunteers.
Morris Claiborne and Eric Reid both had interceptions. Rueben Randle caught five passes for 86 yards and a touchdown.
Jarrett Lee threw three touchdown passes while Jordan Jefferson rushed 14 times for 73 yards and a touchdown. LSU held Tennessee to just 11 first downs all day in a rousing victory.
