Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Brian Kelly this season.
We’re looking at a player who wasn’t even primarily recruited to play football out of high school in receiver Evan Francioni, a senior who began his college career at New Orleans as a baseball player before transferring to Baton Rouge to play football. Depth Chart Overview
Originally a baseball player and wide receiver for Archbishop Rummel in New Orleans, Francioni opted to stay in the city and began his college baseball career at the University of New Orleans. He spent one season with the Privateers before transferring to LSU, where he joined the football team.
He’s seen quite a bit of action, appearing in 25 games in three seasons, but almost all of that came on special teams. He’s still searching for the first catch of his college career, which could potentially come this season.
However, LSU’s receiving corps is one of its strengths, and Francioni’s odds of becoming a regular contributor there don’t appear to be great.
