Broncos Wire’s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at rookie running back Tyreik McAllister, No. 39.
Before the Broncos: McAllister went to college at the University of Charleston. In 2019, McAllister was named to first team All-Mountain East Conference honors. In 2021, McAllister was voted by coaches as the MEC Offensive Player of the Year, leading the MEC with 1,090 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. McAllister averaged 120 yards per game and a healthy 7.62 yards per carry average, good for the third-best average in the country. McAllister was one of 13 undrafted college free agents signed by the Denver Broncos after the 2022 NFL draft.
Broncos tenure: McAllister (5-11, 180 pounds) is most comparable in size to current Denver running back Mike Boone (5-10, 206 pounds). He’ll make his Bronco debut in preseason this summer.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: McAllister was signed by the Broncos prior to Denver re-signing veteran back Melvin Gordon. Had the Broncos not resigned Gordon, McAllister’s chances of making the roster may have increased. Instead, McAllister will face long odds to make the active roster as a rookie. His best chance to stick around in 2022 will likely be on the practice squad.
