Julian Love joins GMFB to talk Wink Martindale, Brian Daboll and more
Entering his fourth season with the Giants, Julian Love is the longest-tenured defensive back on the Big Blue roster.
Love has been a reliable member of the defensive backfield since being drafted, missing just one game during his first three seasons. Over the last two years, he has played in every game for the Giants and has averaged 65 total tackles a season, despite starting just 11 games during that stretch.
Love joined NFL Network’s ‘Good Morning Football’ this week to talk about playing for Wink Martindale, who will serve as the 24-year-old’s third defensive coordinator since entering the league.
“I think the biggest adjustment is it’s pretty aggressive,” Love said about Martindale’s defense. “Like you said, it’s fun to be a DB in this system. We’ve enjoyed having him so far and getting to know him. We’re for sure going to get after it on D this year.”
Martindale was brought on by new head coach Brian Daboll to lead the defense after spending the last four seasons in the same role with the Baltimore Ravens.
Meanwhile, Daboll was hired by the Giants after helping the Buffalo Bills produce one of the league’s most potent offenses during his time as offensive coordinator.
It’s only been a few months since Daboll arrived, but the new head coach has already made a strong impression on Love and the rest of the team.
“The biggest thing so far has been just transparency from the top down,” said the young safety. “I think any worker, that’s what you want. You want to know what your boss is thinking, what he expects from you, and that’s what it’s been so far. It’s been great to get to know Coach Dabes. He’s very eccentric, I guess you could say. He has a lot of energy. You can see him wearing his all-black suit every day with the J’s on. He’s a different breed as a coach. It’s been good just to get to know these guys.”
