LSU’s wide receiver group is set to be one of the best in the country this fall.
Led by junior Kayshon Boutte, the room is filled with experience and potential NFL talent. Boutte could even end up a top-10 pick next spring assuming his return from injury goes as planned.
We saw LSU’s freshman wide receivers have a pretty good year in 2021. Jack Bech, Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas Jr., and Chris Hilton are back and could be primed for breakout years.
Veteran Jaray Jenkins returns, as well, and should get his fair share of targets.
Projecting stats is always difficult, especially when there are this many wide receivers who could emerge as threats. But based on past results from Brian Kelly and Mike Denbrock offenses, the expectation for LSU’s quarterbacks and previous stats from these wide receivers, I think we have enough info to make a good guess.
Here’s our prediction for each heading into 2022.

Catches: 78
Yards: 1,170
Touchdowns: 11
Overview: Out of everyone on LSU’s roster, Boutte has the highest expectations coming into 2022. He was just given the No. 7 jersey and is expected to be one of the first players off the board in the 2023 draft.
Last year, he averaged 6.33 catches per game. We’re going to bump that down to 6.0 since he will be sharing more targets. Six catches per game at 15 yards per catch over 13 games puts him at 1,170 yards.
If Boutte reaches this projected yardage total, he’d jump up to seventh on LSU’s all-time receiving yards list, passing players like Dwayne Bowe and Odell Beckham Jr.
His knack for scoring means he could very well catch more than 11 touchdowns, but it’s always best to be conservative when it comes to projections.
