A criteria the two used was not how the player or coach later performed for Washington, but the impact the acquisition had at the moment. Narrowing my focus to the Washington NFL franchise, what were some of the greatest transactions, creating the most buzz and elation?
Joe Jackson Gibbs returns to coach Washington

Joe Gibbs being rehired by Daniel Snyder as a 4-time NFC champion and 3-time Super Bowl champion was huge. Gibbs was returning to the very same franchise in 2004 that had only been to the playoffs once (1999) since his retirement after the 1992 season. The excitement from Washington sports media is something I have recalled.
George Allen named Washington head coach 1971

George Allen in his five seasons as Rams head coach had recorded an impressive 49-17-4 record and .742 winning percentage. Allen was hired January 6, 1971 as GM and head coach of Washington. Quickly he traded 19 draft choices for 13 veterans creating instant electricity in Washington fans declaring “the future is now.”
Lombardi returns to coaching to lead Washington

Vince Lombardi was hired by Washington on February 7, 1969. Lombardi in nine Green Bay Packers seasons was 89-29-4 with five NFL championships, retiring from coaching on top after the 1967 season. At his first Washington press conference Lombardi proclaimed, “Gentlemen, it is not true that I can walk across the Potomac River—not even when it is frozen.”
