How Graham Harrell will manage West Virginia’s QBs in 2022

We continue our West Virginia-themed series in which we get evaluations of former USC offensive coordinator Graham Harrell and former Trojan quarterback J.T. Daniels. The two have been reunited in Morgantown. They’re preparing to lead West Virginia against former USC quarterback Kedon Slovis and Pittsburgh in Week 1, in a game with a substantial Men of Troy flavor.

We asked WVU blog site The Smoking Musket for insights on how Graham Harrell will handle Daniels and the Mountaineers’ quarterback room this season.

Here’s what The Smoking Musket said:

“If Daniels is healthy, there’s absolutely no juggling–I think everyone in the room understands that. Frankly, I think if Daniels gets injured, the staff would likely still lean toward preserving (Nicco) Marchiol’s redshirt in favor of Garrett Greene or Will Crowder. Greene has some playing time experience, while I feel like Crowder had the best spring. If one or both of those two prove ineffective, then you would break the glass on Nicco. I could also see Nicco getting mop-up duty in our FCS game if it came to that, just getting game action without risk of burning the redshirt.

“But make no mistake, this will be J.T. Daniels’ team from start to finish if he stays healthy.”
