The Miami Dolphins organization is entering a special celebration season, honoring its 1972 perfect team’s 50th anniversary this year. In a welcomed coincidence, the 2022 season in South Florida is also welcoming a new era of Dolphins football.
There was the Don Shula Era. Then came the Dan Marino Era. Then came a time of football recession. The turn of the century hasn’t been kind to the Dolphins faithful, and a rabid fanbase is desperate for not just a playoff appearance for the first time since 2016, but their first playoff win since the 2000 season.
Fans got their first eye-witness sense of this season’s team during Saturday’s open practice, and Baptist Health Training Facility was filled with an ocean of aqua and orange-clad die-hards.
Newly acquired wide receiver and main hype-man Tyreek Hill grabbed the microphone and warmed up the crowd, even in the already sweltering sun. It’s Hill’s energetic vibe that has sent a shockwave of optimism through a fanbase that’s so desperate for success – the kind of success that was so consistent during the golden and platinum eras of Dolphins football.
New coach Mike McDaniel has seemingly brought a new culture. Players have been able to let their personalities show, and this could translate into better success on the field.
What has been very visible lately has been the fan excitement, and based on yesterday’s footage and feedback, the 2022 Dolphins season is looking to be nothing else but, as Hill says, “electric.”
Dolphins Twitter has been just that for the last 24 hours.
