Henry, Tigers more motivated than ever following ‘down season’

The Tigers front seven is the best in the country

Though last season did not pan out like season’s past with the Tiger’s missing out on the ACC title game for the first time since 2014, defensive end K.J. Henry continues to be pleased with the fact that Clemson is held to such a high standard — something the defensive end hopes never changes.

“It showed the standard that we have at Clemson, and we love that,” Henry said. “We love that that is a down year for us number one and that’s a perspective that we have to look into. I mean, we definitely hear it , now whether we let it come in home and whether we actually care about it is a whole other story. We definitely hear it, I mean, we got TVs and radios, we know what’s being said and we know who’s saying what and our time will come. There’s no doubt about it and I think you’ll see a lot of good things this season.”

Now that Clemson has turned the page on last season, Henry is looking forward to what will be his last year in the Orange and Purple. Returning their entire starting defensive line from the 2021 season, the veteran is confident that the adversity they faced just one year ago has prepared them to appreciate the winning ahead and the journey it takes to get there.

“I think for us it was just, we were reminded how to appreciate winning,” the North Carolina native said. “That’s something that we haven’t been told a lot about. We’ve had a lot of great teams up to this point and not everybody understands that the ACC Championships, we earn those. We play good teams; we had to prepare and take those wins.”

“Now in a year where we don’t make it to that point, it’s the end of the world, but we understood that we prepared for those moments and we were just reminded, it’s that simple. We know now going into this year once again that we’re going to have to prepare every week do the best that we can in order to win every game.”
