4 takeaways from Friday’s practice

Cincinnati Bengals training camp featured a rebound of sorts for the offense on Friday.

It wasn’t a stunning showing by any means with backup quarterbacks running the show, but it was an improvement over the Thursday practice that saw the offense running gassers after droves of issues, including many earned flags by the offensive line.

Not only that, onlookers got updates on some key injuries of note, another notable one happened during drills and it was again another day with referees in town to officially call the action.

Here’s a look at the most notable takeaways and notes from the team’s most recent practice.

Zac Taylor provided the big news of the day, saying that they consider Joe Burrow day to day. Tight end Drew Sample is gone for at least a few weeks, though Sample managed to avoid a dramatically more serious injury.

Also of note was offensive tackle D’Ante Smith suffering an injury in warmups that had him leaving the field for good.

Burrow’s still making an impact

Burrow went viral for “running” sprints with his guys from his golf cart, but behind the scenes, he’s clearly still having a major impact and staying as engaged as possible.

“I think he’s been locked in and focused,” Taylor said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “He’s in the meetings and helping lead like he was today. He’s been plenty engaged and I don’t think we need to stimulate him. He does a great job there.”

Cam Taylor-Britt rebounds

Look how quickly things can change in training camp. Taylor-Britt, the team’s second-round pick, had a rough few days and ended up playing behind an undrafted player on Thursday.

Friday he was back out there rebounding by having some great reps, including breaking up a deep pass. If he can play more like he did on Friday than on Thursday, he’ll be seeing some snaps in place of Eli Apple as a rookie.

No exaggerations about Chase

A Bengals player who suggested Ja’Marr Chase looks even better this year might not be far off the mark. That suggestion said Chase is even better at small technical things like manipulating route-running, but the above highlight sure makes the case, too.
