Micah Abernathy, a safety for the Houston Gamblers in the USFL, is making the leap to the NFL. He was sensational for the Gamblers in 2022, and is now being rewarded for his efforts. It was announced today that Micah signed with the Green Bay Packers, after a successful tryout with the team earlier this week.

There is no doubt about it: Houston featured some of the USFL’s best defenders. Abernathy was no exception, putting up spectacular numbers throughout the year. Had it not been for Micah’s efforts, the team likely would have lost more games than they did.

He finished the season with over 70 tackles, and two interceptions. Micah was certainly an elite safety, especially down the stretch. One of his season highlights came in week nine, where the team handed Birmingham their first loss due to a late interception by Abernathy.

Micah did spend some time with the Indianapolis Colts in 2019, but was cut before seeing the field that season. He was with the Dallas Renegades in the XFL during their 2020 season, but of course that was cut short because of COVID.
