Junior wide receiver Josh Downs is coming off a big 2021 season in which he broke out and became one of the best players on the Tar Heels’ offense.
Now, going into this season Downs is earning some recognition as one of the best players in the conference. On Monday, Downs was the lone Tar Heel named to the All-ACC Preseason team via ESPN, grabbing one of three spots for wide receivers on the team. He joins A.T. Perry (Wake Forest) and Dontayvion Wicks (Virginia).
Some preseason recognition isn’t anything new for Downs.
The receiver has also been named to multiple preseason ACC teams including from the conference’s media writers after the annual media days this Summer. He’s been named to multiple award watch lists as well.
Downs will be UNC’s top player on offense again and should be among the best receivers in the country. But could uncertainty at quarterback slow him down? That could be one of the biggest factors this season for the offense.
