IRVING, Texas (Sept. 28, 2022) – Washington State EDGE Brenan Jackson was named a semifinalist for the 2022 William V. Campbell Trophy by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Wednesday.
Celebrating its 33rd year, the Campbell Trophy® recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership. Jackson is one of 156 semifinalists including 10 from the Pac-12 Conference.
Jackson enters the week fourth in the Pac-12 with 6.5 tackles-for-loss and seventh in the league with 11 quarterback pressures. Through four games this season, the Temecula, Calif. native owns 17 tackles with 6.5 for loss including two sacks while in the classroom, Jackson is in his second year of the MBA program and owns a 3.89 GPA.
In the community, Jackson was voted to the team’s leadership council, served on the 2021 Black Student-Athlete Association (BSAA) Social Chair, was the 2021 WSU SAAC Football Representative and is currently the Black Student-Athlete Association Secretary & Treasurer. In his hometown of Temecula, Calif., Jackson volunteered with the Temecula Valley Pop Warner program (2014-18) and Great Oak Football Kids Camps (2014-18). In Pullman, Jackson has volunteered with the Pullman Community Cleanup: Adopt a Road Program (2020) and served as a panelist for Native American Youth Event at Elson Floyd Center (2022).
“These 156 impressive candidates truly represent the scholar-athlete ideal,” said NFF Chairman Archie Manning, whose sons Peyton (Campbell Trophy® winner) and Eli were named NFF National Scholar-Athletes in 1997 and 2003, respectively. “During the past seven decades, the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards have recognized 891 college football players who excelled as the best our great sport has to offer. This year’s semifinalists build on the tradition, further illustrating the power of football in developing the next generation of influential leaders.”
The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on Oct. 26, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2022 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments.
