Should Cameron Dicker make his NFL debut as the Eagles’ placekicker on Sunday with Jake Elliott listed as out on the team’s injury report for the game at the Cardinals, the goal will be to repeat what he’s done in practice all week at the NovaCare Complex: Relax, have fun, and do what he does best.
“It’s been fun, really good,” Dicker said at his locker on Friday afternoon. “It’s gone well.”
Signed to the Eagles’ practice squad earlier in the week after Jake Elliott suffered an ankle injury in Sunday’s win over Jacksonville, Dicker has worked on his timing with long snapper Rick Lovato and holder Arryn Siposs in the event that he is elevated from the practice squad to the active roster on gameday. He kicked for four seasons at the University of Texas, where he became the Longhorns’ all-time leader in career field goals, with 60. Dicker’s longest field goal came from 57 yards in the 2019 season and in 2021 he made 87 percent of his field goal attempts. As a freshman, Dicker’s 40-yard field goal with :09 remaining helped lift Texas past Oklahoma and then-Sooners (and now Arizona Cardinals’) quarterback Kyler Murray.
After signing with the Rams as an undrafted rookie, Dicker was released and then signed by Baltimore for, literally, only a few days. When Elliott was hurt – and showed great toughness kicking an early fourth-quarter 28-yard field goal for the Eagles in the 29-21 win over Jacksonville not long after he had been clipped in the ankle by Jacksonville’s Tyson Campbell, a roughing-the-kicker penalty that kept the Eagles’ drive alive – the Eagles brought Dicker in and liked what they saw.
Elliott hasn’t practiced all week, so Dicker has been able to work on the little things to be ready.
“It’s an opportunity for me if it happens and I am excited about it,” he said. “You always have to be ready to go. I’ve been kicking a lot and if my number is called for Sunday, I’m going to go out there and go my best and have fun with it.”
