New York Giants NFL power rankings round-up going into Week 6

A week ago, most power rankings remained highly critical of the New York Giants. They were being called frauds, fakes and the worst 3-1 team ever. But following their stunning victory over the Green Bay Packers in London — a game everyone was able to watch — the tune has changed drastically.

When you’re actually able to watch these Giants, it’s clear as day they’re tough, gritty and willing to do whatever it takes. Needless to say, the bandwagon is now growing in size.

As we enter Week 6, here’s a look at where the Giants place in a multitude of power rankings.

Nate Davis, USA TODAY:

They’re getting next to nothing from their passing game yet are somehow 4-1. For context, Justin Jefferson has 547 yards through the air, and New York’s wide receivers have combined for 551.

Bo Wulf, The Athletic:

The Giants’ performance in London was even more impressive than it looked on the scoreboard. They scored 27 points on just eight possessions, good for 3.4 points per drive, the seventh-best offensive performance in a game this season (No. 1 belongs to the Seahawks’ Week 4 win in Detroit).

Austin Gayle, The Ringer:

No quarterback has been pressured on a higher percentage of his dropbacks than Daniel Jones (48 percent), and even when the Giants keep the pocket clean, Jones ranks just 17th in EPA per dropback among starters. Jones is also throwing to one of the most injury-plagued and disappointing receiving corps in the NFL that most recently featured Richie James, Darius Slayton and David Sills V in Week 5. And the defense ranks outside the top half of the league in yards allowed per play (5.40). But—somehow—the 4-1 Giants are still winning games. It’s a credit to running back Saquon Barkley, who is now FanDuel’s favorite to win Comeback Player of the Year (-200), and first-year head coach Brian Daboll and his staff that truly deserve the lion’s share of the praise in East Rutherford. The Giants’ culture change is clear—as are Daboll’s coaching credentials, especially his ability to adjust in-game. After shutting out Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in the second half in Week 5, the Giants are tied for third in the NFL in point differential in second half of games this season. Jump on the Daboll bandwagon while you still can.
