#ProDeacs: Week Six Recap - Wake Forest University Athletics

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Week six of the 2022 NFL saw two teams with Wake Forest players on the roster improve to 5-1 and an impressive NFL debut for a rookie Deac.

Debut Alert

Linebacker Luiji Vilain was active for the first time in his NFL career and recorded his first tackle on special teams coverage in the second quarter against the Dolphins. In addition to special teams, Vilain played 17 snaps at linebacker and pressured the quarterback three times and helped the Vikings improve to 5-1 on the season.

Taylor Makes Play in Primetime

Cornerback and special teams ace Ja’Sir Taylor made a play in overtime that helped the Los Angeles Chargers win, 19-16, on Monday Night football against the Denver Broncos. With less than five minutes remaining in overtime, the Chargers punted the ball from their own territory.Β

Taylor, who was playing as the left gunner, ran down the field and got in position. Using the Broncos defender, he threw the opponent into the returner, forcing a fumble that the Chargers recovered inside the 30-yard line and it set up the game-winning field goal.

For his efforts in creating the first special teams turnover of the season for the franchise, Taylor was awarded with a game ball by head coach Brandon Staley in the locker room after the game.

Back in Action

Offensive guard Phil Haynes played every offensive snap for the first time since week one this week against the Arizona Cardinals. He helped open up holes for the Seahawks to rush for 136 yards and defeat the Cardinals 19-9 to get back to .500 on the year.Β
