Whenever a new head college football coach is hired, there is almost always significant roster turnover. With the hiring of Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule on November 26th, the same thing is happening in Lincoln. So far, eight players have announced that they have entered their names into the portal. Transfer portal rules state that on December 5th, the portal will open nationwide. Players from Nebraska can enter early due to the 30-day window that opens when a new head coach is hired.
Nebraska’s most high-profile names in the portal would be linebacker Ernest Hausmann and wide receiver Decoldest Crawford. During his freshman year, Hausmann appeared in all 12 games, starting in six, recording 54 tackles, two for loss, and one sack. Crawford was a three-star recruit out of high school and committed to Nebraska over LSU, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Penn State, USC, and several other schools. Unfortunately, he suffered a knee injury during the offseason and missed the entire 2022 season.
The Cornhuskers are also seeing several special teams members announce their departures. Kickers Chase Contreraz, Gabe Heins, and Brendan Franke have announced that they have entered the portal. Contreraz appeared in four games in his career, all in 2021, and was two of four in field goals with a long of 39 yards. In four seasons, Heins has yet to appear in a game, while Brendan Franke appeared in 12 games in 2022 and was a kickoff specialist with 36 touchbacks.

Thank you, Nebraska! I will forever be thankful for the opportunity to live out my childhood dream. I’m officially in the transfer portal as a Grad transfer with 2 year’s eligibility. Can’t wait to see what the future holds! pic.twitter.com/3GzCaYCG50
