The start of bowl season has not been friendly to North Carolina, with significant players entering the transfer portal and the departure of offensive coordinator Phil Longo. Some good news was needed.
On Thursday morning, that good news came about.
Defensive back Ladaeson Hollins, better known as Dae Dae, went to social media, announcing that he is withdrawing his name from the transfer portal to spend his graduate year as a Tar Heel.
The North Carolina Tar Heels have endured the worse luck from NCAA’s transfer portal, tying for fifth-most for players entering their name in the portal. This change of fortune could continue with the portal more loaded than ever with talent, and more players could plan on withdrawing their name and lacing back up in Chapel Hill.
After deep conversations with my family members and the coaches and staff, I have decided to withdraw my name from the NCAA Transfer Portal and spend my grad year here in Chapel Hill
Thank you to the coaches who have reached out in attempt to help me find a new home.

I contacted Hollins about his decision to return to UNC, and this was his reasoning.
“Being here for quite some time, leaving Carolina would feel like leaving my family all over again”
A big scare came last night when it was announced that Longo was heading to Wisconsin, with many speculating if quarterback Drake Maye was next to hit the portal. After hours of speculation, Maye denounced any speculation, confirming he is a Tar Heel via social media.
Hollin’s return will be needed for North Carolina’s defense, which has struggled all year. His experience and familiarity with Chapel Hill significantly boost a hopeful ACC-winning 2023 season.
