It took 76 days, but eventually, the Nebraska Cornhuskers hired a new head football coach when Matt Rhule accepted the position on November 26th. Rhule is one of 12 new head coaching hires at the Power Five FBS level. CBS Sports recently evaluated and graded each and every one of the new hires, and Athletic Director Trev Alberts received high marks.
College Football reporter Barrett Sallee highlighted Rhule’s impressive turnarounds with Temple and Baylor. In his four years in Philidelphia, Rhule would have an overall record of 28-23, with conference division titles with an AAC title in 2016.
He would then move on to Waco, Texas, where he would go 19-20 in his three seasons at Baylor. Rhule would get off to a rough start going 1-11 his first season, and by his third season, he finished with an 11-3 record and a Big 12 title game appearance.
Rhule is taking over for Scott Frost, who was dismissed as head coach three games into his fifth season on the job. He would finish his Nebraska coaching career with a record of 16-31.
