Paris Shand has emerged as a priority recruit for Rutgers football. The defensive lineman, who has spent the last three seasons in the Pac-12 at Arizona, visited Rutgers football last weekend.
And now Shand is with an SEC program this week.
A source close to the situation tells Rutgers Wire that Shand is currently at LSU on an official visit. The interior defensive lineman is 6-foot-5 and 290 pounds.
Last season he had 23 total tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and 2.5 sacks.
Coming out of the transfer portal, Shand holds Power Five offers from programs such as Wisconsin, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech among others.
LSU is certainly taking a look at a proven player with Power Five experience. Their 2023 recruiting class includes three defensive line recruits including two four-stars (Dashawn Womack, Jaxon Howard) and a three-star (Dylan Carpenter).
Where Shand would project depends on how things play out with LSU players entering the NFL draft. Mekhi Wingo is coming off a strong season (41 tackles) and he still has two years of eligibility left. A junior, Jaquelin Roy put up 49 tackles and is an NFL draft possibility.
Shand grew up in Canada but played his final season in high school football at Loomis Chaffee School (Windsor, CT). He was ranked a two-star recruit out of high school by Rivals.
Coming out of high school, his Power Five offers included Arizona, Boston College, Rutgers, Virginia and Vanderbilt.
Shand has two years of eligibility remaining.
