The Green Bay Packers and WPS Health Solutions paid special tribute to U.S. Navy Lieutenant VanAnh McCormick during Sunday’s game against the Lions for ‘Operation Fan Mail.’
Operation Fan Mail, the program that recognizes military families and veterans at each Packers home game, is marking its 16th season this year.
McCormick commissioned as a surface warfare officer in May 2013 from Northwestern University Naval ROTC. She has completed sea tours on USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109) and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), both out of Norfolk, Va. On shore, she served at Naval Reactors Headquarters in Washington, D.C. During her career, her sea assignments have taken her to more than a dozen different countries around the world, including Cuba, Romania, Poland, Sweden, Italy, Turkey, Egypt, Israel and Croatia.
McCormick currently serves as the weapons officer onboard USS Forrest Sherman (DDG 98). She has been awarded one Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals.
McCormick’s love for the Packers was cultivated from a young age. Her father, who immigrated to Milwaukee in the 1980s from Vietnam, became a fast fan of the team during his time attending Marquette University. She grew up watching games with her dad from places like Chicago, Cleveland and Orlando, and they text during games to this day to make sure they are seeing the same amazing plays.
McCormick attended the game with her husband, Dr. Michael McCormick, who was born and raised in Appleton, Wis. The two are both celebrating their birthdays as well as their seventh wedding anniversary. Also in attendance were McCormick’s aunt Julie Maxwell and Julie’s husband, Jereme Maxwell.
Operation Fan Mail, which debuted in 2007, is designed to honor families with a member who is on active duty, or a member who is a veteran. The family member can be a spouse, mother, father, son, daughter or sibling. In addition to being recognized on-field prior to the game, selected families receive four tickets to the game and a $150 Packers Pro Shop gift card courtesy of WPS Health Solutions. The program hosted a family at each 2022 home game and recognized them on the field during pregame activities. A total of 157 individuals, families or groups have been recognized through the program thus far.
