The Raiders are expected to trade Derek Carr over the next few weeks before his February roster bonus hits. By now, we have a good idea of what teams might be interested. But what could the Raiders expect to get back in return for Carr?
In a recent article by Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report, he wrote about a few players that could be traded this off-season. That list included Carr, who should have several suitors over the next few weeks. In the article, he had the Jets listed as one of the teams that will likely be interested in Carr.
In his writeup, Moton theorized that the most the Raiders could get for Carr from the Jets would be a second-round pick and potentially another mid-round selection. Here is a snippet of his thoughts on a potential deal:
“New York can offer Las Vegas the No. 44 overall pick in the 2023 draft and a middle-round selection to start the conversation for Carr. If the Raiders accept the proposal, Gang Green would have a significant upgrade over quarterbacks Zach Wilson and Chris Streveler, who remain on the books beyond the 2022 campaign.”
Carr will have a new team in 2023, that much we know. But will it be via trade or free agency (if the Raiders cut him)? That’s yet to be known. But if the Raiders can get a second-round pick out of Carr, that’s probably a worthwhile trade for Las Vegas at this point.
It’s wishful thinking to believe that the Raiders could get a first-round pick for Carr after last season. But a second-round pick does feel right considering Carr’s pedigree and current contract. If a deal ultimately gets down, expect that to be the price his new team pays to acquire the veteran quarterback.
