NFL.com mock draft has Lukas Van Ness going No. 8 to Atlanta Falcons

Lukas Van Ness was a dominant force for the Iowa Hawkeyes and he appears to be doing the same in regards to his skyrocketing climb across NFL mock drafts. The defensive lineman is rapidly becoming one of the draft darlings with his name among some of the nation’s best at the top of draft boards.

In NFL.com’s most recent 2023 mock draft, their analyst Daniel Jeremiah has Van Ness flying off the board at No. 8 overall to the Atlanta Falcons. Jeremiah has a nose for talent as he has served as a scout for the Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns, and Baltimore Ravens.

Van Ness is extremely explosive and has the versatility to play up and down the line. He is a finisher as a pass rusher and he can overpower blockers in the run game. He should test very well in the spring. – Jeremiah, NFL.com

Previous mock drafts project Van Ness as a top 10 selection as well with his name gaining traction as a top prospect. He has even found himself among the top 32 NFL draft prospects on Todd McShay of ESPN’s big board.

As Jeremiah hinted at, Van Ness is ready-made for the NFL. His skillset is there and his discipline from being a member of the Hawkeyes’ defense is obvious. At 6-foot-5, 275 pounds, he comes with NFL size and strength to boot.
