Texas A&M and Texas football will resume long awaited rivalry in 2024

The time is near for the Texas A&M Aggies and Texas Longhorns football teams will once again meet regularly in competition. It’s been a few years since they’ve played each other causing both teams to focus on other opponents with the hopes of meeting each other in a post-season match-up, but it never materialized.  So, with Texas A&M leaving the Big 12 for the SEC over a decade ago, there was a slight change in each team’s main on-field rival.

Texas simply turned its attention to Oklahoma which made a lot of sense due to both of them already having an existing rivalry game that’s been going on since 1900, the Red River Showdown. Meanwhile, with Texas A&M it came down to Arkansas or LSU.

But none of that will matter because in 2024 the best and biggest rivalry in the state of Texas will be back on the main stage called the SEC. The specific detail of how the game schedules will work are still up in the air, but I’m confident that making sure the Aggies and Longhorns play each other every season is in the cards. Texas A&M AD Ross Bjork gave a little insight on the lack of clarity to the scheduling yet:

“The (SEC members) have not decided on the exact football scheduling format, and we anticipate that decision being made this spring,” Bjork said, according to The Houston Chronicle. “And since we don’t know the exact football scheduling model, it’s too early to analyze the LSU-UT, home-away concept, until we see some models.”

There is a new crop of Aggie fans that never really got to see of don’t remember how big of a deal these games were and I’m over the moon that Texas will be joining the premier college football conference.
