Clemson isn’t one of the most prominent college football programs in the country just because of its on-the-field success — it’s also because the team has some of the most historic and unique traditions.
One 247Sports writer recently broke down the 10 college football entrances that people love to see on game days, and Clemson made the list among other entrances like Virginia Tech’s Enter Sandman and Miami’s smoke entrance.
While he didn’t rank the entrances, here’s what 247Sports’ Sam Marsdale had to say about the Tigers’ tradition of running down “The Hill” and touching Howard’s Rock:
As the Clemson Tigers take the field at every home game, they run down the hill in the end zone, leading to the field. However, before they run down the hill, they rub the rock mounted at the top of the hill called, “Howard’s Rock,” which was given to former head coach Frank Howard. Many teams have something they touch before taking the field but Clemson’s rock at the top of the hill is one of the more iconic ones and something that everyone is familiar with.
Clemson will have its first home entrance this upcoming season on Sept. 9 when the Tigers take on Charleston Southern.
