Reuter is on record as loving Simpson for the Cowboys in the first round, as he mocked the Clemson linebacker to Dallas back in February, too. He’s the first ‘backer off the board in this exercise, going before Drew Sanders and Jack Campbell.

The Cowboys are thought to be in the market for linebacker depth, with Micah Parsons playing more edge rusher, Anthony Barr now a free agent, and Luke Gifford gone. Not an urgent need, per se, but with marquee names like Bijan Robinson, O’Cyrus Torrence, Darnell Wright, Dalton Kincaid, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Zay Flowers already taken in this mock, Dallas beefs up the middle of the defense.

Dane Brugler of The Athletic believes Simpson is “in a similar mold” to Parsons; he would need to be to justify the club passing on other red-hot targets like Michael Mayer, Quentin Johnson, Deonte Banks, Kelee Ringo, and Jahmyr Gibbs with this pick.
