Class Of 2023 To Be Inducted Oct. 27-28
BERKELEY – Eight Golden Bear standouts – including Olympians, national players of the year, All-Americans and a legendary coach – have been elected for induction into the Cal Athletics Hall of Fame.
The Class of 2023 is as follows:
- Doug Brien (football, 1991-93) – finished Cal career as program’s all-time leading scorer, a record that stood for 24 years
- Mike Epstein (baseball, 1963-64) – program leader in career batting average who went on to enjoy a nine-year MLB career
- Devanei Hampton (women’s basketball, 2005-09) – first player in program history to be named the conference Player of the Year and a two-time All-American
- Jolene Henderson (softball, 2010-13) – three-time All-American who holds multiple program pitching records
- Jana Juricova (women’s tennis, 2009-12) – won NCAA championships in both singles and doubles and member of the Pac-12 All-Century Team
- Carli Lloyd (volleyball, 2007-10) – National Player of the Year led Cal to the only two Finals Fours in program history
- Jerome Randle (men’s basketball, 2007-10) – Pac-10 Player of the Year and Cal’s all-time leading scorer
- Barry Weiner (men’s gymnastics head coach, 1992-2010) – led Cal to two NCAA championships and was twice named National Coach of the Year
Formal induction ceremonies are scheduled for Friday, Oct. 27, at the annual Hall of Fame Induction Gala at the on-campus Pauley Ballroom. Ticket information and more details will be announced at a later date. The class will also be honored at halftime of the Cal football team’s home game against USC on Saturday, Oct. 28, at California Memorial Stadium.
With the addition of the new members, the Cal Athletics Hall of Fame now features 339 individuals and seven rowing teams. The school’s Hall of Fame, which is located on the west side of California Memorial Stadium, is open to all ticket holders after each home football game.
DOUG BRIEN – Football (1991-93)
Brien was an All-Pac-10 kicker who was selected in the third round of the NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers and went on to enjoy a 12-year professional playing career, including a Super Bowl win with San Francisco as a rookie. While at Cal, he amassed 288 points – setting a program record that ended up standing for 24 years.
