RICHMOND – University at Albany running back Griffin Woodell has been named the Coastal Athletic Conference (CAA) Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday morning. It is the fourth time this season Woodell has earned the conference’s weekly honor.

Woodell rushed for a career-best 136 yards on Saturday afternoon in UAlbany’s 38-20 win over Stony Brook to win the Golden Apple Trophy. He compiled 23 attempts on the ground, adding another 19 yards on three receptions through the air. He scored a TD early in the game to register the first points of the day for the Great Danes.

The Great Danes will compete for at least a share of the CAA regular season championship this upcoming weekend. UAlbany sits in a four-way tie for first place with Villanova, Delaware, and Richmond – all sporting a 6-1 conference record. UAlbany will play Monmouth at Casey Stadium this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
