Some Honors and Awards for Sun Devil Football in 2023

The 2023 season saw several Sun Devil football players earn postseason awards.

CAM SKATTEBO

Cam Skattebo was named one of the finalists for the Paul Hornung Award, the first Sun Devil to be a candidate for a national award since Zane Gonzalez in 2016. He was officially Arizona State’s first non-specialist finalist for a major national award since Terrell Suggs won the Lombardi, Nagurski, and Hendricks Award after a legendary 2002 campaign. Primarily a running back, Skattebo also lineD up at shotgun quarterback and receiver and was a weapon for the Sun Devils as a quick kick punter. He led the team with 788 rushing yards, scored nine touchdowns on the ground, was third with 286 receiving yards and a score, and completed six of 15 passes for 130 yards and a score. In a game against No. 6 USC on Sept. 23, the versatile back rushed for 111 yards on the ground, hauled in four receptions for 79 yards and went 2-of-3 passing for 49 yards, including a punt that went 53 yards. Competing against UCLA at the Rose Bowl, Skattebo found an open Elijhah Badger for 25-yards that went for a touchdown, contributing to the victory.

DEFENSIVE LINEMAN C.J. FITE

C.J. Fite earned Pac-12 honorable mention honors for Freshman Defensive Player of the Year. The Tatum, Texas, played in 11 games and recorded 15 total tackles. Fite was one of just eight interior linemen in the FBS to play over 300 snaps as a freshman and one of just three to do so as a true freshman. He played 200 more snaps than any other true freshmen interior lineman in the Pac-12 and his 75.0 grade on run defense was second among all FBS true freshmen interior linemen and fourth among true and redshirt freshmen.

B.J. GREEN

Defensive lineman B.J. Green was named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team, playing in all 12 games and making 39 total tackles, a career high for the junior.

ELIJHAH BADGER

The red-shirt senior led the Sun Devils in receptions with 65 on the season for 713 yards and ranking first in the Pac-12 with 578 return yards on kickoffs with an average of 28.9 per kickoff return. Badger forced an FBS leading 32 missed tackles and added 14 more on kick returns this past season. In a contest against Colorado, he caught a career high 12 receptions for 134 yards, and later tied his career high in a victory against UCLA at the Rose Bowl with 12 receptions, 116 yards and adding a touchdown.
