The USFL and XFL kicked off the new year officially announcing their merger and rebranding to the United Football League (UFL). On New Year’s Day, Dany Garcia and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson joined College Gameday on ESPN to reveal the eight teams that would comprise the new UFL.
Today, UFL CEO Russ Brandon join 101 ESPN St. Louis to discuss the merger, new league and of course the St. Louis Battlehawks. During his interview he also mentioned that Dean Blandino would be making the move to the UFL.
Blandino has been tied to the XFL since it’s 2020 season as “VP Of Officiating & Playing Rules Innovation”. This would seem to point to the possibility that Mike Pereira may not be coming over to the UFL. Both were their respective rules and officiating experts in the USFL and XFL.
Since the UFL was revealed many fans have been asking what the rules will look like when they hit the field. Blandino sticking aroung could indicate that the ruleset could be more similar to the XFL’s.
