Gators in the NFL: Super Bowl 58 Recap

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl 58 last night, meaning five former Florida Gators earned a ring. The Gators have now had a former player win the Super Bowl in each of the last three years.

Back-to-Back Super Bowls
Kadarius Toney and Tommy Townsend have officially won back-to-back Super Bowls, the first Gators to achieve this task since Emmitt Smith and Godfrey Myles did it with the Cowboys in the ’93 and ’94 seasons.
Townsend, who some considered to be snubbed for the game’s MVP, put together a spectacular performance in his third Super Bowl appearance. The four-year starter had four punts for 254 yards. He also had two punts inside the 20-yard line, including a critical punt in the third quarter that was muffed, leading to a Kansas City fumble recovery and touchdown. Townsend’s longest punt of 62-yards marked the fourth-longest punt in Super Bowl history.
Even with two Rings, Townsend stayed humble, taking pictures with fans after the game.

Gators Get Their First Rings
Jawaan Taylor, La’Mical Perine and Trey Dean all earned their first Super Bowl rings as members of the Chiefs. Taylor started on a KC offensive line that helped the Chiefs rush for 130 yards.
