The time is getting closer to finding when and where UNC quarterback Drake Maye ends up calling his new home as the 2024 NFL draft inches closer.
Maye finished as one of the best Tar Heels to throw the pig skin and has earned high praise with expectations of the five-star QB being one of the two first quarterbacks to be taken in the draft. The debate on which QB should be taken first between Maye and USC’s Caleb Williams continues to be argued, but there’s no arguing that the two are by far the best in their respective fields.
Well, one sports personality is giving his prediction about where Maye ends up and the best current player he can see the Tar Heel turning into. Fox Sports Colin Cowherd believes the Washington Commanders will select Maye with the second overall pick, giving him the Justin Herbert comparison.

“I think they get Drake Maye. I think he’s like Justin Herbert as a comp… and will be better than people think immediately.”

Maye to Washington may make things a bit awkward, with the current starter being UNC’s Sam Howell. Outside of their ties to UNC, Howell passed over the keys to Maye before entering the NFL draft, who mirrored his success.
It’s no telling what the Commanders will do if they end up with both Tar Heels on their roster, but if history repeats, it could be dej a vu for the two QBs.
