Though Michigan football’s recruiting efforts in 2024 at the cornerback position appeared to initially be a swing and a miss, the Wolverines rebounded nicely.
The maize and blue went all-in on Ohio duo Bryce West and Aaron Scott before both ended up staying home and pledging to the Buckeyes. Michigan reeled in then-four-star cornerback Jo’Ziah Edmond, who was committed to Purdue at the time, but Edmond shocked many by rising sharply up the ranks to become a four-star and one of the highest-rated prospects of the 2024 recruiting class.
The Wolverines are hoping that 2025 sees some good fortune at defensive back, though the first commit, four-star CB Chris Ewald, has since reopened his recruitment — but he is still considering Michigan among his suitors.
Enter Mark Zackery IV, the 2025 defensive back from Indianapolis (Ind.) Ben Davis. A four-star prospect, Zackery released his top four on Thursday and Michigan made the cut, along with Notre Dame, Florida, and Cincinnati.

Mackery is listed by 247Sports among the elite of the elite, rated No. 61 in the country, regardless of position, along with being the seventh-best cornerback and best player in the state of Indiana.
He is, however, currently trending to end up in South Bend as he has two 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions to the Irish. If Michigan can get him on campus one or more times before he ultimately commits to his school of choice, then it will certainly have a fighting chance — especially with a new coaching staff who can share their vision of how he’ll fit into the secondary.
Also, if Ben Davis High School sounds familiar, that’s because it was once the home of former Michigan running back Chris Evans.
