NFL free agency begins next week, so the Arizona Cardinals likely have a list of players at different positions they would like to target. Of course, as general manager Monti Ossenfort, said on the radio recently, free agency is tough to make plans for because of uncertainty.
“There’s a market and there’s players we think are going to be available right now that two weeks from now are not going to be available,” he said last month on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM.
Two players who could have been targeted in free agency to fill a pair of positions of need now are unavailable, having reached agreements to return to their teams on multi-year deals.
Dotson was going to be one of the top guard options on the market. The Cardinals need a left guard and the potential for strengthening the team while weakening a division rival was an added bonus.
There was never any report that the Cardinals had Doston on their radar, but it would not have mattered. He has agreed to return to the Rams on a three-year, $48 million deal.
The Cardinals need another linebacker to play alongside Kyzir White and Tranquill, who was teammates with White on the Chargers, would have been a nice fit after a year with the Chiefs. But Tranquill returns to Kansas City, getting a three-year, $19 million contract, ruining any possibility of targeting him.
