Arkansas football Offseason Depth Chart: Tight Ends

Our spring football positional preview series at Razorbacks Wire continues Monday with a look at Arkansas’ tight end group.

One of the most unsung positions on nearly every roster in the sport, tight end at Arkansas has had its share of ups and downs for most of the last 20 years. Heck, in 2023, those ups and downs came in the same exact same.

Arkansas returns three players from the group who saw legitimate time last year. Luke Hasz played in just four games, though, as injuries cut his season short. Ty Washington saw significant action in one game, but that’s it. And Var’keyes Gumms took a while to get going.

Added to the group is blocking specialist Andreas Paaske and Shamar Easter, who once was the top recruit on Arkansas’ board before Hasz leapfrogged him.

If the group stays healthy and Washington and Gumms develop further in their third and second years in the Arkansas system, tight end could be one of Arkansas’ top positions. It may even be one of the top three tight-end units in the SEC.

Here’s a futher look at every player on Arkansas’ spring roster at the position. If you want to check out the previous positional previews, you can find them below, as well.

On a team full of a position battles, Luke Hasz stands out. Not a player on the roster can compete for the No. 1 tighe end job for the Razorbacks in 2024. That is, assuming Hasz is healthy. The second-year man out of Oklahoma was picking things up at the quarter mark of the season before he was lost for the year. He finished with about 4 1/2 games played in which he caught 16 passes for 253 yards and three touchdowns. He needs to develop more in pass protection, but catching the ball, he might be one of the three or four best in the whole SEC.
