Former Tide TE signs with Kansas City Chiefs

One former Alabama tight end inked a new deal. On Tuesday afternoon, Irv Smith Jr. reached an agreement with the Kansas City Chiefs on a one-year deal.

Over the first four years of his NFL career, Smith Jr. spent time with both the Minnesota Vikings and Cincinnati Bengals. He began his career in 2019 with the Vikings. Smith Jr. spent three seasons in Minnesota. Smith Jr. was a valuable pass-catcher for Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins. He reeled in 91 receptions for 858 yards and nine touchdowns.

Following the 2022 season, Smith Jr. signed a one-year deal with the Bengals in free agency. In one season with the Bengals, Smith Jr. had 18 receptions for 115 yards and one touchdown.

Smith Jr. will now head to the winner of the last two Super Bowls — the Chiefs. He will form one of the top tight end duos in the NFL alongside veteran tight end Travis Kelce.
