How Tre’Davious White can double contract value with Rams

After being cut by the Buffalo Bills this offseason, Tre’Davious White signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams to join their young secondary. When healthy, White can be one of the best corners in the NFL, but he hasn’t been on the field very much in the last three years, playing only 21 total games since 2021.

Given his injury concerns, the Rams wisely structured his contract in a way that rewards White greatly for staying healthy. As we learned from Over The Cap this week, White’s base value is actually $4.25 million after it was initially reported to be worth $8.5 million, with a max value of $10 million.

Jason Fitzgerald of Over The Cap then revealed that White can double his contract’s value from $4.25 million to $8.5 million by playing at least 60% of the snaps. That’s a huge incentive for the veteran corner.

The max value is still $10 million but it’s unclear how White can earn the final $1.5 million to increase it from $8.5 million to $10 million. Regardless, the Rams are protecting against paying White a huge amount of money for not being available very much.

It’s a low-risk, high-reward deal for the Rams after it initially looked like a fairly risky contract for an injury-prone player.
