Ranking the top eight tight ends

One year ago, the 2023 NFL draft featured unbelievable depth at the tight end position. One tight end — Utah’s Dalton Kincaid — went in the first round. However, five tight ends were selected in the second round, and 15 were chosen from the draft’s seven rounds.

There is a clear No. 1 in the 2024 NFL draft — Brock Bowers of Georgia. But after Bowers, there are questions. It’s safe to assume five players will not be chosen in the second round.

The Washington Commanders have a need at tight end. They signed veteran tight end Zach Ertz to a one-year deal after releasing Logan Thomas. But for Bowers, the tape shows you everything. He plays fast. He is explosive and dangerous after the catch. He has a huge future in the NFL.

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Ja’Tavion Sanders (0) celebrates a catch for a first down against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Sanders was productive for the Longhorns over the last two seasons before entering the NFL draft. He has good size and posted solid testing numbers at the NFL combine. Coming out of the combine, Sanders looked like he’d definitely be the second tight end chosen. However, others have entered the conversation. Sanders is more of a big receiver at the next level, but that’s the case for many tight ends. He isn’t going to be a huge presence as a blocker.
