Spring practice is over for the Georgia Bulldogs. The Dawgs had 15 practices this spring and, for the most part, avoided major injuries. Now, Georgia football fans have to wait 138 days until the season opener against Clemson.
Don’t worry, Dawg fans. There will be plenty of excitement between now and the season opener in Atlanta. The transfer portal opens on April 16. The spring window should be quite active as players jockey for name, image and likeness deals and playing time.
Georgia’s spring culminated in the Bulldogs’ annual spring game. The red team and black team tied 20-20 in a gritty game that featured lots of passing, but not a ton of big plays. The top play of game came when quarterback Carson Beck connected with wide receiver Dominic Lovett for a touchdown pass with under a minute left.
Following the game, head coach Kirby Smart explained why he did not want to go for two. Additionally, he talked about numerous Georgia football players and gave a few injury updates. Here’s the most important thing Kirby Smart said after Georgia’s spring game.
On quarterback Ryan Puglisi’s injury
“The knee injury, it’s a stress, it’s a small stress fracture. It’s not a break or a significant injury. It’s a shut down injury and let it rest. We listened to what the doctor said and did that. But it’s not a long-term problem,” said Smart. Puglisi’s injury helped Gunner Stockton play a ton of snaps this spring.
On not going for two
“Well I didn’t want to put a two-point play on tape. We did that last year, or the year before. We did that and I was like ah, we want to keep those things in our pocket. We won’t show off those. Figure the kickers need the work,” said Smart.
