One RB for Rams to target in each round

One RB for Rams to target in each round

Running back is not a pressing need for the Rams this year thanks to the emergence of Kyren Williams in 2023. The former fifth-round pick broke out in a big way, leading the NFL in rushing yards per game and also scoring a total of 15 touchdowns in only 12 games.

It may not be a priority position this year, but it is one the Rams are likely to address at some point as they search for a player who can spell Williams throughout the season. Whether it’s a scat back who can contribute as a receiver or a power back capable of running between the tackles, look for the Rams to add a running back in this year’s draft.

Here are six potential targets, one in each round – except the first, where no running backs are expected to be drafted.

The Rams are not drafting a running back in Round 1. In fact, it’s highly unlikely that any team will take a running back in the first 32 picks. It’s just not a very strong class at the top of the draft for running backs but there is some value in Rounds 2 and 3.

Brooks is viewed as the top running back in the draft after putting up 1,425 scrimmage yards and 11 touchdowns last season. He’s a dynamic back with excellent elusiveness and athleticism, projecting as a starter at the next level.

There’s a very low chance the Rams will take Brooks or any running back in Round 2, but stranger things have happened.

In Round 3, we’re approaching the territory where Los Angeles might consider taking a running back. But even still, it’s probably a bit early. Benson is a tackle-breaking machine with home run ability, averaging a healthy 6.1 yards per carry in his career. He has the size teams look for in a running back, too, coming in at 6 feet and 216 pounds with 4.39 speed.

Estime hails from Notre Dame like Williams, and he’d be a good complement in the backfield. Though he lacks breakaway speed, Estime is a punishing runner in the mold of A.J. Dillon. With his power and downhill running style, he’d help the Rams in short-yardage situations and goal line carries, but he also has some receiving ability when needed, too.
