5 things to know about Packers fifth-round pick Jacob Monk

Duke University offensive lineman Jacob Monk speaks with reporters during the ACC Kickoff Media Days event in downtown Charlotte, N.C. Wednesday, July 26, 2023.

Not only was Monk the first true freshman to start on Duke’s offensive line since 2007, but he was also a three-time All-ACC pick (2021-23) and a two-time team captain (2022-23). The Packers were especially drawn to his leadership ability within Duke’s program.

“He’s an elite wiring kind of guy,” Jon-Eric Sullivan said. “You talk to the people at Duke, they talk about how he’s the leader of the pack. He wants to win and those guys follow him.”

Monk was also Duke’s “K.D. Kennedy Iron Devil Award” winner in 2023. The award is given out to “a player who demonstrates the most heart, durability, and toughness throughout the year.” In 2022, he was the recipient of the Steve Brooks Captain award after helping Duke rush for a school record 31 touchdowns and led the ACC in fewest number of sacks allowed.
